Why Keeping Exotic Pets is so Challenging

It’s all down to evolution 🌏

👉In the wild these animals have spent millions of years adapting by fine tuning there biology to perfectly utilise every aspect of there native environment. Essentially, everything is perfectly balanced & works together in harmony.

👉When something becomes imbalanced, a slow change or adaptation typically occurs to rectify this (evolution).

👉However when we remove non domesticated animals & put them in an artificial environment, we are creating a number of sudden & abrupt changes that their biology simply cannot keep up or cope with.

👉Ultimately this is what leads to ill health, disease & a whole lot of negative keeper debate, miss-information & poor ‘quick fix’ advice.

👉No matter what you get told, when it comes to keeping exotics in captivity, there is no such thing as the ‘correct set up’ because unless its the wild origin you are always going to be compromising some aspect of there evolutionary needs.

👉All we can do is our best we can with the knowledge we have at that time.

👉Which is why it is paramount that we continue to learn, grow & be willing to make changes to artificial environments.
