Why do Parrots Mimic?

Honestly, we still donโ€™t exactly know why! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Parrot social behaviour is incredibly complex & affected by a vast amount of external factors & variables ๐Ÿฆœ

What we do know ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ‘‰Many behaviours displayed in captivity can be linked to some form of wild evolutionary advantage.

๐Ÿ‘‰Research from studies have indicated Parrots could mimic because they actually have local dialects much like we have different regional accents & slang!

๐Ÿ‘‰In the wild where there is likely to be several flocks within the same geographical area. Developing a unique language within your group helps parrots identify their mates & helps them locate their flock if they become astray.

๐Ÿ‘‰If we relate this to our home environment, parrots typically view us as one of their โ€˜flockโ€™ And they are exposed to numerous repetitive words & sounds on a daily basis.

๐Ÿ‘‰The random sounds mimicked are most likely ones they associate most strongly with their flock (you).

๐Ÿ‘‰Think about how often we use Alexa, telephones, light switches & kettles โ€“ which seem to be some of the most commonly mimicked sounds!
