Nutrition Myth vs Fact
🌏Myth: it is good to give Animals the same food every day.
🌏Fact: The vast majority of animals on the planet, including ourselves have evolved to thrive on diversity.
👉There is a phenomenal amount of evidence now supporting the connection between a highly varied diet & improved health outcomes.
👉This research (mostly focused on humans) has shown that a diverse gut microbiota (achieved hy eating a highly varied diet) is strongly linked to less overall physical & mental disease.
👉Unsurprisingly, evidence is also supporting a similar outcome for animals & when we delve into the wild habitats & natural behaviour, it becomes clear why.
🐢For example, Tortoises under wild observations have been recorded devouring over 300 different species of plant in a single season! 🌱
🦜Surprisingly to many, Parrots in the wild will forage on a wide variety of flowers, leaves, bark, insects & minerals in addition to nuts seeds, fruits & vegetables! All of which gets completely turned over in a single season! 🌸🪳🌱🥭
👉The reality is, the availability & quality of food in the wild environment far surpasses that which is available to us in captivity.
👉Due to the large variety, animals have evolved to benefit from a vast range of nutrients & further utilise this method of feeding to their advantage.
👉What can we do to help?
